Well good evening readers, I hope you had a wonderful day today! My day started out wonderful, got a bit turbulent in the middle and ended on a good note.
Before I dive more into my day, I want to give a little shout out to a wonderful reader who left a kind comment on my post a few days ago. I apologize for the delayed response but thank you so much missabigaylemaelieser. That meant a lot to read that and both my husband and I were very touched. So Cheers to you! Our little family wish you all the best in 2024!!
Now, let me begin by saying my baby slept through the night, which was a relief. This cough has been interrupting her sleep, so needless to say we were thrilled. She woke up for a quick feed around 5 AM or so then back down till about 9:30 AM. My husband cared for her a little bit than I stepped in. She was a happy baby, only a touch fussy. Her tummy was a bit bloated which meant a storm was a brewing in there. Queue foreboding music.
She played with me for a short time then hunger stuck! Her happy little smile turned into the very familiar upside down quivering ‘U’ shape, before the water works started. When I say my baby doesn’t want to wait for her meals, I mean it. We always have a bottle at the ready to just be heated a touch and fed to her. Patience is not her virtue when her hunger hits. Once she stopped attacking the bottle like a baby shark….if you don’t know what I mean, feel free to look up some baby videos of it. It’s funny and frustrating all at once. She fell asleep feeding and was passed out for her mid-day nap….so I thought. I mentioned to my husband that she was down for the count and I was going to run up and start some dough for breads I was making. He just needed to keep an eye out.
WELL, the nap didn’t last long because shortly after I started preparing the dough for the three different breads I was making today, I heard her little cry. Thankfully my husband picked her up to soothe her. He came up with her to the kitchen since it was his lunch break.
I was able to finish the three different breads: Plain white, Jalapeno Cheddar and Sun-dried Tomato with Asiago Cheese. To be honest, the first two are regulars, but the Sun-dried tomato was a new one for me. I like to experiment with flavours and I always loved sun-dried tomato bread. Why not try making it at home instead?
Bread done….CHECK. Dishes cleaned…CHECK. Unhappy and over tired baby….DOUBLE CHECK! Now here is where the day gets a bit….rocky.
My husband had some meetings this afternoon and we try to keep it quiet in the house for him when that happens. However, when you have a very tired baby girl, well she has other plans. She would love for the world to know she is unhappy right now. And boy did she! She whimpered, cried, laugh/cried and everything in-between. She was not having any of our attempts to put her down for a nap. Eventually we all went for a walk around the block, her strapped into the carrier around my husband. To our surprise, she zonked out within the first 5 minutes of being in the cold fresh air. It was a miracle, for a short time.
When we came home though, her nap did not last too long when we put her down. Eyes popped open like a mad woman and that was it. Another few hours of an inconsolable little girl. Back and forth between my husband and I, until about 5PM, when she FINALLY went down for a good four hour nap. Thank the Lord, because her fussy over tired behaviour was trying our patience, I’ll be honest. If you are a parent, you understand it can be really difficult to keep your patience in check, your partner is your rock in those moments. Because these little humans can push buttons even when it is unintentional. You think you have them happy and soothed and then BOOM…the crying starts again.
Now in the time that she was fussing all afternoon, around 3:30 PM, I had to put the breads in the oven to bake. They had been rising for several hours now. Like a flash I ran to the kitchen, preheated the oven, popped the dutch oven in to heat up and than the two bread loaf pans were prepped with parchment paper. Bam….plain white bread in one loaf pan, Bing…Jalapeno Cheddar in the second and Wham…Sun-dried Tomato into the hot dutch oven. All three in the oven for at least an hour, but the aroma in the house of fresh baked bread was heavenly.I took some photos and if anyone would like the simple recipe I’d be happy to share, please let me know and I’ll write up a recipe post. Maybe I will anyway…
The rest of the evening was pretty quiet, dinner, relaxed a bit, now happily writing this blog post and pondering the possibility of opening up a photography Instagram…I’ll keep you posted on that! Enjoy the photos and I hear the animated Little Mermaid on the t.v. with grandma and my baby girl, so I’m going to go enjoy some classic Disney.
Ciao!
