Bonus – WordPress Prompt – Guiding Light

Guiding Light by Daniela (Mama)

Life passes by
like the flick of the butt.
The smoke tendrils linger,
as the ash falls to dust.

My eyes gently close, lost in the memory…
As the smoke weaves through my senses easily.
I sip the coffee, hot in it’s cup
missing it’s silent, ember glowing counterpart.

Forbidden indulgence beckons,
With seductive whispers,
promising solace,
amidst tranquil solitude.

The strength to refrain,
is stronger then the hold.
That doesn’t stop the siren’s call.
But my lungs are scarred,
the decision made.
I no longer need that tantalizing haze.

In the embrace of my husband, I hear,
My daughter’s laughter, sweet and clear.
She’s the reason desire softly fades,
In her presence, my heart cascades.
No wants, no needs, just this familial bond.
A tired smile graces my lips,
As the memory softly slips.

I breathe in freedom,
pure and bright.
As I run to my daughter,
my guiding light.

Note: I quit smoking again for various reasons, but my daughter is the biggest reason why. I want to be in good health for her, she needs me around for a long time and I don’t plan on going anywhere any time soon. This time, I haven’t had one single craving since I quit.

Be kind and I hope you liked it.

Ciao!

Happy Day

Last night went better then expected. My mom was a massive help; between playing with her and then assisting me with putting her to sleep, it was amazing. She was a bit fussy as I tried to put her down for the night but once she was out, oh it was bliss. It was the first time in a while that she actually got more than two hours of straight sleep, 10:30 PM to 2:40 AM.

My mother had offered to sleep on the couch so that I wasn’t alone and we could share the nightly duties, but her dog had other plans. Yappy little thing is attached to her at the hip. That’s perfectly okay though, I had insisted she go to sleep in her own bed and be comfortable.

Valeria only woke up twice the entire night. First was at 2:40 AM – she ate a little, than wanted to “play” which meant touching my face, smiling and then flinging her arm back and forth. She ate a little more and then rolled over and passed out. She was out cold by 3:15 AM. The second time was at 6:30 AM, which was a quick little feed and rolled over back to bed.

To say I got lucky is an understatement!

She woke up close to 9 AM after that last feeding and she was happy as a clam. She had a pretty good day, lots of play time and she went down for her naps easily. It was all in all a great day with her.

Unfortunately, since my husband got home, she has been overly excited and now doesn’t want to sleep. He is currently exhausted from all the driving and being at the office, so he is in bed. I’m trying to deal with an excited five month old, who just wants to play with dad….at 11:30 at night. We had her asleep by 9….she woke up at 9:15.

Can someone please explain baby logic to me?!

I must dash and try to sleep my happy little one.

Ciao!!
