August Recap

This August has been a hectic one and to be honest, I don’t even know where the month went! It flew by in a flash and I can’t say I feel like I accomplished a lot this month. Between family visits, a family reunion, wedding and everything in between. So let’s recap the list, shall we?

  • Clean – Nope! I tidied up…does that count?
  • Sell some things we don’t need – household items – Not a chance, but this one will be coming off my list for next month
  • Continue at least two walks a day – I’ve been slacking…mama needs to get moving again because it actually made me feel great when I did
  • Continue counting calories – Sigh, fell off the band wagon on this, should really jump back on
  • Increase my water intake to two 40 oz tumblers a day, at least – I’m getting back to it, slowly but surely!
  • Clean out the wagon and water/sand put plastic turtle my brother gave us – Well it’s the end of summer now, so this one will be off my next list
  • Review a new Anime show I’ve been watching and loving! – Completed! Wooo my first completion and I hope I inspired someone to watch it. It’s just so good!
  • Get shoes for the wedding for my husband and myself – Completed, though as much as I loved the shoes I got, they killed my feet. I forgot how much heels hurt, especially when I haven’t worn any for nearly two years. Eek!
  • Wash Valeria’s dress for the wedding – Completed. Hand washed and everything! She was so adorable in it! She wore it only for a short time though.
  • Get blood work done – Um…no but I really need to do this one when I’m back home
  • Tidy up my desk – Didn’t have a chance, but man I need to.
  • Tidy up the cabinets in the bathroom – Completed! This was oddly satisfying to do and extremely necessary. They were an utter disaster!
  • Pack things we aren’t using in a tote bin – Started, but not completed.
  • Clean up the Laundry room – Completed. The amount of stuff I got rid of for my parents down there….oh man!
  • Order tea light candles – Holding off on this as we weren’t home much this month.
  • Clean up the living room – I tidied…but I wouldn’t say this is completed by any means.
  • Go through summer clothing and begin packing some things away – Completed. I went through my dresser and packed a bunch away. Can’t wait to get my fall clothing out.
  • Go through Valeria’s clothing (She is growing like crazy!) – Completed. I went on a frenzy with this one! My husband even asked if he could help.
  • Finish up a few art projects – Nope, again it’s due to not being home long enough to do anything. *Sad Face*

Well not to shabby to be honest. I could have been much worse, so I’m pretty proud of everything I actually accomplished here.

But like I said before, it was wonderful spending lots of time with family on both sides (but I have to admit, I miss my personal space. I like to recharge my batteries during my “alone” time. Introvert through and through!) And the wedding was amazing, until my baby girl wasn’t well. But I will have to blog about all that in the next week or two.

Oh I started Duolingo….again. I’m going to give it a real shot and try to learn Romanian. Wish me luck!

Oh and did I mention we were house sitting? Yup, we will be house sitting for most of September, which will be good and it will give us a little taste of living in “our own” space. Well so to speak, but you catch my drift.

Also, thankfully Valeria is doing much better and has gotten over whatever illness she seemed to have. However, my husband has now come down with the same thing. So please pray for me that I don’t catch it. I’m now taking care of my husband and nursing him back to health, but it seems to be a head cold, so hopefully in a few days it will be gone.

Anyway, that’s pretty much it!

Hope you all had a wonderful August wherever you are in the world!

Tough One for Valeria & First of the Season!

Well it’s been a crazy few days getting ready for my sister-in-law’s wedding, so I apologize for all the WordPress Prompts!

However, we came back to the apartment last night with Valeria during the wedding reception. Sadly we weren’t even able to stay for dinner or dancing. Valeria wasn’t feeling well all afternoon and it progressively got worse so we made the call and it wasnt a question, Valeria came first over our need to celebrate the happy occasion. Once she was home, she wanted to go straight to bed. As you wish, a line gladly taken from Thr Princess Bride.

This morning was an early one, but she still wasnt 100% and the slight fever was still there. We tried to play with her and make her laugh, but she really wasn’t having it. We opted to put her in the bath for a bit to help with the fever. However, it was shortly lived because soon after she wanted to go back to sleep. She had only been up an hour, but I wasn’t going to deny her. My husband napped with her.

She has been on and off sleeping most of today, but at least her mood increases positively each time she wakes up.

My cousin and I were texting in between  Valeria’s playtime and nap times and she mentioned she finally found the Starbucks in her new town. Well, with the exhaustion and heat in the apartment, Starbucks sounded amazing! I kindly asked my husband if we can order one and he said yes. Score!

I had the pleasant surprise of finding out Pumpkin Spice had come out already so naturally I ordered a Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew. Yup, I’m that girl! Needless to say, it is delicious!

So is it time to break out my Uggs, leggings and sweaters yet?

WordPress Prompt – Calm

I’ll keep this pretty short and sweet.

It’s the freedom to write what I want, when I want and how I want. Whether that be about my daily life, my daughter, poetry, reviews, etc. I write how I feel at that time and it gives me calm in a generally hectic day.

That is truly what brings me joy with writing.

WordPress Prompt – Darkness Calls to Me

Since I can remember and my mother always tells me, I was and am, forever a night owl.

I love the night and am often up late because of the fact it’s quiet and I feel most productive during that time. Always have. I’d be in school writing essays to the wee early mornings, crafting, reading or doing household tasks. It’s my quiet time.

I’m a night owl, child of the night or whatever you would like to call it.

And I love it!

WordPress Prompt – What’s In a Name?

Welp let’s see…

I hear this story quite often from my mom when the thought of baby names comes up.

Picture this…1989 was the year and my parents were discussing baby names with eachother. My mother was dead set on the name Bianca for me…

Yes, I was apparently suppose to be a Bianca, I can’t even imagine!

But my dad adamantly said No! The reason being he had an aunt or something in Italy who he hated named Bianca. And so time went on and my mother suggested Daniela, named after my father. Well ladies and gentlemen,  that stuck!

So there is the very simple tale of how I got my name.

WordPress Prompt – Movie Addict?

I won’t deny that I am a bit of a movie addict, though as of late I am finding the newer stuff hard to watch. I’ve been going back and watching older movies I absolutely adore. But doing a top ten, well that’s a bit hard but I’ll try!

In no particular order, here it goes….

  1. Jaws
  2. Grease
  3. Dirty Dancing (1987)
  4. Klaus
  5. Practical Magic
  6. Army of Darkness
  7. Footloose (1984)
  8. Pretty Woman
  9. Troy
  10. Gone In 60 Seconds

These are generally my go-to movies that I know will make me happy after watching them. But to be honest, the list could have been way longer…

Do you have any favourite movies? I’d love to hear them in the comments!

Godparent Fun and Cousins Reunion…

This past weekend was jam packed with quite a bit of family time and travelling.

Friday morning we left for my cousin’s house, Valeria’s Godparents, for the night because the next day we were all heading to a cousins family reunion. We arrived at about noon in town, stopped at the grocery store for some lunch and I had to pick up a few things to make a pasta salad and than we headed to their house.

My cousin works from home on Fridays and her husband usually comes home early. We got there and spent lunch with her before she headed back up to her office to finish up her day. She was done at 3 PM, so it worked out. Valeria went down shortly after work and my husband napped with her, he needed it after the long drive. I just hung out outside on their newly finished back deck until my cousin was finished. She joined me outside and we chatted as she did her nails, her husband come home shortly after she joined me. The three of us chatted and checked out their very plentiful herb and vegetable garden, I was seriously astonished how much they had grown and still had in the garden.

I swear Valeria sensed the fun and woke up not long after. We changed her into her bathing suit and she got to get into their pool for a short time before the weather finally decided to rain. Short rain, but we went inside; dried and changed Valeria and than she got to play with her Zio and Zia and chasing after their cats. Once the rain eased up, the boys barbecued some burgers and hot-dogs while we got the rest ready and I prepared my pasta salad for tomorrow. The rest of the night was just fun, they were playing and walking with Valeria up until she went to sleep. Valeria is absolutely obsessed with them and I’m so glad. Anthony opted to stay with Valeria in bed (best husband ever), but he was definitely missed that night with us. We wouldn’t be doing that next time; guard rails and camera are coming with us so he can spend some time with us.

The three of us sat outside on the front porch, because we were covered from the rain, and talked into the night about everything and anything. Occasionally running up bottles for Anthony and making bottles so they were ready for the night. We all ended up going to bed around 11:30 PM – 12 AM.

The following morning, Valeria decided she wanted to wake up at 5:30 AM, and we tried getting her back to bed for about an hour but no luck. Eventually, she got fussy again and trying to keep her quiet while she is over tired is next to impossible. So again, my husband to the rescue and was about to put her back to bed for a little bit longer. I apologized to my cousin and her husband for waking them, but they were really understanding. I adore them. Once Anthony and Valeria came down, they started breakfast and than we had to get ready for the reunion.

We left the house around noon and driving in a downpour thunderstorm on the highway was terrifying. You couldn’t even really see in front of you at certain points, but we made it in one piece, thank God! We arrived at my zio & zia’s house and not everyone has arrived. The weather had delayed everyone, but we said hi to everyone who was there and Valeria was clinging to Anthony.

The reunion was…interesting. There were cousins I hadn’t seen in 15-20 years, but now I realize there is a reason for that. The cousins I do see often, it was great seeing them and we do need to make plans outside of this to spend some time together, but the rest….well frankly was a little bit awkward. We had asked that no one hug or kiss Valeria, she’s teething and it’s just personal space. This would be the most people she’d been around so far. Well, doesn’t one of my cousin’s wife come up and kiss her arm, even though I said not to….

I was not thrilled and neither was my husband. Like no offense, WHY!? Respect our boundaries and frankly, I don’t care if it offends you. Be respectful. *Huffs frustrated*

To say the least, my zio and zia hosting did a fantastic job, but I probably won’t go again. I would prefer to hang out with the cousins I normally see and well…like. We left around 4:30 since the weather had cleared and Valeria was a fuss pants. Fine by us to be honest.

The drive home was good, Valeria fell asleep almost instantly once she got in the car and had the bottle. There was a bit of traffic on the highway, but nothing major. We made it home in good time.

The rest of the evening was pretty uneventful so I’ll spare you the details, but that was it! Weekend over. Back to the daily parental grind.

Hope you had a wonderful weekend wherever you are in the world!

Review – Anime – Delicious in Dungeon

Now I’ll leave the episode by episode review to the real anime watchers but this is my review. And to be honest, I thought it was a cute little gem to be found on Netflix. You can watch it dubbed, but I personally like watching anime in Japanese and reading subtitles. But there are options! Now, I’m pretty positive this was a Manga first…..yup, just checked! The Manga was released in 2014.

Title: Delicious in Dungeon

My Rating: 👍

Released: 2024

Genre: Anime

Number of Seasons: 1

Actors: Kentarô Kumagai, Sayaka Senbongi, Asuna Tomari, Hiroshi Naka, Saori Hayami

Setting: The Island, situated off the coast of Kahka Brudlt – dungeon located near Merini Village

Where to watch: Netflix

Plot:

After a failed dungeon raid that resulted in his younger sister being eaten by a dragon, Laios and the remaining members of his party, Marcille and Chilchuck, set out to rescue her from being digested by the dragon. Having lost most of their supplies in the raid, the group are unable to afford rations, so they make the unusual decision to source all their food from inside the dungeon… including eating monsters! Fortunately, a odd dwarf named Senshi is willing to help them by showing them how to cook the various monsters in the dungeon.

My Opinion:

I genuinely loved this show, it ‘s fun and quirky and made me giggle quite a bit. I personally love anime that showcase food/cooking and this mixed with the fantasy aspect of dungeon diving almost feels like a D&D vibe.

The relationship development between characters is interesting and well thought out, along with each characters back stories and own growth as the show progresses. The main characters are all lovable in their own ways, my personal favourite is Senshi, but each has a special place in my heart. However, the secondary cast of characters were a surprise and their personalities a wonderful addition to the plot.

But if you think this show is lighthearted and happy throughout the whole thing, you are sadly mistaken. I love that it has a darker overarching story line which also develops as the season progresses, a nice surprise and I personally feel that it deepens the show even further.

I will however mention that it starts off a touch slow, but seriously stick with it! The show progresses nicely and well worth the watch for the characters and comedy alone.

It’s clever, fun and a show I looked forward to watching every week! Well, when it was still releasing episodes. There has been confirmation of a Season 2 coming in the future so looking forward to it. Give it a watch and I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Big Thumbs up!

Postpartum: Aftercare Part 2

Now you may be wondering, ‘Huh, how is there going to be a part two to this?’ Well dear reader let me tell you. Not only is there a whole lot physically going on in your body, BUT emotionally as well. Hormones do some crazy things, let me tell you.

Remember when I spoke about Calm Magnesium Powder and Bach Rescue Pastilles lozenges? Yeah, those were helpful for me the first month because emotionally…..I was a disaster! I couldn’t sleep, even though I was exhausted, but the anxiety and worry about my baby was overwhelming.

Here is a story for you, indulge me for a moment: The day after I gave birth, I woke up so early my husband was concerned. He had no cause for concern….so I thought and I informed him I was going to shower. I needed to have a shower and feel like a human being, so I hopped in. What I didn’t expect is to have a full out bawling session for no apparent reason. I just started crying, and I’m not talking soft girly cries….no, no….BAWLING. I couldn’t understand it. I had this beautiful little girl now, my birth went incredible, so why?

It’s a big life change to have a child and I feel like people don’t talk about the after effects quite enough. My hormones were all over the place (still are might I add, but slowly balancing themselves out) and my emotions were on high, in every way. I mean from extremely happy, to crying to agitated and EVERYTHING in-between. I’m sure my husband would gladly attest to that!

I didn’t know how to handle it at first and my only solution was to run to the bathroom when I felt like I was about to have a crying session. It was so bizarre! Who knew this was going to happen? I had heard of Postpartum Depression, a good friend of mine went through it after both her children, but you never think it will happen to you.

Now, I’m not a medical professional and I am only informing you of what worked for me; so please take what I have to say with a very open mind and a grain of salt. Plus after reading this you might think ‘Wow, she’s not okay..’ and that could very well be true, however it’s just my journey. However right or wrong it is.

The Calm Magnesium Powder and Bach Rescue Pastilles lozenges helped with my mood and sleep, but only for a short while. I than began taking my usual supplements again: Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Fish oil, and Beef Liver. It seemed to help, but not entirely. When I was able to walk outside again, that really helped my moods. The fresh air, the activity and just the pure silence I got to have on the walks was immensely helpful. Baby sleeping in her stroller as I just….Walked.

Talking to my husband, friends and family about how I was feeling and asking for advice was major. I tend to hold my feelings inside, bottling them up until I blow like a hot kettle. However, I was navigating this blind and I needed to talk. I needed information and knowledge from people who’ve been through this.

My Midwife and Doula would constantly ask me at my follow-up appointments how I was doing, not just my daughter, but me. I was always honest, informing them that it was tough. They always made great suggestions: being active, talking to people, getting out of the house, but also to seek medical attention if I really needed it. Great advice by the way.

I do highly recommend if you are having severe Postpartum Depression to seek medical attention from a professional. It’s not a joke and everyone is affected differently.

My body is working to balance it’s self out in many ways, both hormonally and emotionally. There are days when I’m happy and energetic and others when I’m blah and tired. The tired also stems from my Iron deficiency, so double whammy! But I’ll be completely honest, for me personally, I prefer natural methods of treatment over pharmaceuticals. But that doesn’t always work for everyone.

Now, what feels like a billion years ago after having birth was only 10 months ago and I’ve finally got a game plan and working on myself emotionally and physically. Taking my supplements, eating better, and getting physically active. The little one keeps me on the go now that she’s crawling.

Not sure if the imbalance is normal for this long and in hindsight I probably should speak to my family doctor about it, however we all have our processes.

Just remember: you gave birth to a little one and so much is happening all at once, physically and emotionally. Never forget, you need to take care of yourself as much as your newborn. They need you more than anything and you can get through this. And again, seek medical attention if your way isn’t working the way you hoped.

It’s okay to ask for help.

Ciao!

My husband the Spider Killer

I absolutely HATE spiders! They freak me out beyond belief and for some reason it’s like they can sense my fear of them because they constantly find a way to intrude on my space.

Well, tonight was no exception, this big black monster….okay it seemed like a monster to me anyway, it was just chillin’ on our bathroom wall by the window where the shower was. It was absolutely disgusting, black and the size of a quarter, I swear! I was freaking out with my slipper in hand ready to attempt smacking it and thought better when it scurried across the wall. Plus, the smack probably would have woken up Valeria.

Thankfully, I heard my husband and immediately opened the bathroom door and called for him in a panic. He came waltzing in, said “where is it?” I pointed frantically and he heroically killed the thing for me.

My hero…I could now go to the bathroom in peace!

He got a kiss for that one.

What are you scared of? Let me know in the comments below.
