Bonus – WordPress Prompt – A Small Gesture

I’ll be honest, I generally don’t discuss my random acts of kindness because I’m just not that type of person. When I feel the moment I act on it. But this one even caught my husband by surprise.

One day, we were going to the dollar store to pick up some things and there was an older gentleman who was sitting close to the entrance, he was homeless, but he wasn’t bothering anyone. He had a small sign and a backpack with him. I felt the urge to help him, knowing he was being ignored by most the people walking through the doors and I like to help the homeless who don’t harass others. So I turned to my husband and said “I want to buy him some food and a drink.” He was caught off guard, responding “Really?” I just nodded and we headed toward the aisle with granola bars and such. We got him a box of granola bars, a few packs of beef jerky and a drink. Nothing major, but we thought it may help if he’s hungry. We paid and went outside and handed him the bag, he thanked us profusely and we in return gave him some kind words of encouragement. As we walked away, I looked back to see him looking through the bag and smiling and than he placed it in his backpack. It, in turn, made me smile.

A small gesture can go a long way, I just hope it helped.

WordPress Prompt – Nickname Hmm…

What’s the story behind your nickname?

Not much of a story to be honest, people cut my name short to Dani because they didn’t want to say my full name in school or when I was working. I refuse to fo by that now though.

There you have it folks! Simple and to the point.

WordPress Prompt – Bella Ciao!

This isn’t even a question for me, I would go to Italy immediately! I have wanted to go to Italy my entire life and visit all the places I’ve heard stories about from my family. Where they grew up, the things they remember, the beauty of the entire country and not to mention the incredibly delicious food and wine. Who wouldn’t want to go!?

My dream, and my husband is well aware of this, is to do a cooking/food tour of Italy. I would love to learn and well eat my way through Italy. Does that make me an abnormal tourist? I don’t know, but I want to be a part of it, even for a brief moment.

So I will make it to Italy one day, this I’ve promised myself.

Where would you go?

Ciao!!

WordPress Prompt – Under the Knife

I realized that I’m probably a little late on this prompt, but it was in my drafts so I’m going to post about it anyway!

I’m not great with surgeries, primarily because the first one I had came with the scary realization that I take quite a long time to come out of anesthetic. EEK!

But I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled at 16 years old, which was a funny story to say the least. My mouth just couldn’t handle having the extra teeth (my mouth is small according to my dentist) so he told me they needed to come out. He gave me the options: local freezing, laughing gas, both or being put under. Well my insane fear and trauma from teeth extractions as a kid came into play and I jokingly told my dentist that if he came near me with a needle, he’d end up with it in him. Thank goodness he has a great sense of humor and I’ve known him for years. “Under it is than!” he said with a chuckle and scheduled me an appointment with the hospital. I looked like a chipmunk with my giant puffy face for days. But I have no regrets.

The second surgery was for my Gallbladder at 20 years old. That was another interesting story and sometimes you just know your body best. I fought with my doctor, insisting that I had stones and I had all the symptoms. All I wanted was an Ultrasound to confirm. She turned to me and said “You are too young to have gallstones…” and brushed me off. Being the pain in the ass that I am, I went to the walk-in clinic at my doctor’s office and spoke with her husband (who was on duty that night) and he kindly gave me the requisition for the ultrasound. Lo and behold, I had stones…..lots of them! I went in for surgery not long after that and it was painful. My belly was so bloated because they did it laparoscopic, so I will forever have four neat little scars on my belly. Battle wounds! Just kidding!

But those are the only two surgeries I’ve gone under for, what about you? I’d love to hear what surgeries you’ve had in the comments below.

Bonus – Word Press Prompt – Spirited

I feel like Word Press has had this question before and I’m pretty sure I’ve answered it, but here we go again.

Yes, spirituality is very important to me and my husband as well. We just Baptized our daughter on June 16th, and we hope that it will mean just as much to her as she gets older.

My journey with spirituality hasn’t always been straight forward, but those crooks and bumps in the road ultimately led me back to God. Reconnecting to my spirituality has had such a positive impact on my life; it brought me my husband, which led to our daughter and the joy of being a stay at home mom. I pray every night and often seek guidance when I’m unsure of the path God has already planned for me and my family.

Spirituality is personal and meaningful in different ways for everyone, for me it means so much that I can’t imagine not having a relationship with God.

Long story short, yes spirituality means a lot to me.

Bonus – WordPress Prompt – Before?!

Well this is an intriguing question and I can only imagine the answers people will give. The birth of the internet was in the early 80’s I believe and sadly I was not even a thought in my parents mind at that time. I was born later in the 80’s.

However, I remember when we got our first computer in the 90’s and for us it was a big deal. I was still too young to be on the internet, so I remember vividly what it was like before I was hypnotized by the marvels of the internet and chatting with friends on MSN Messenger, Neopets, etc.

There were a ton of kids in my neighbourhood and my best friend lived down the street. We were always outside playing games; skipping, hop-scotch, tag, hide n’ seek, soccer, boys would play street hockey, hula-hoop, etc. After school we would head home, do our homework, go play, be called in to dinner, than play again and once the street lights came on, it was time to head in. That or you would be called in by your parents at any given moment. We would generally be at someone’s house and our parents always knew where we were. If I were at my friend’s house, they would walk me half way until I met my mom or Nonna and vice versa.

For me, that was life before the internet. Once I discovered the internet, along with the rest of my friends, we all became shut ins for a while. It was a fascinating new world for all of us and we just thought we were the coolest thing since sliced bread for having a name like Cute_baby_girl or some nonsense like that for our messenger screen name. And you had to have it typed in that funky lettering everyone used. However, I eventually became a video game nerd and that was my escape on the internet.

There you have it folks, I was just a kid who played outside. Weird huh?

Bonus – WordPress Prompt – Tutti Fruity

Well this is kind of a fun question from WordPress, something a little light-hearted.

  • Green Apples – they are tart and delicious and really the only apples I enjoy
  • Mango – My Sister-in-law got me hooked on these and I still don’t know how she cuts them so perfectly. When they are ripe they are so sweet!
  • Strawberries – I feel like this one is pretty common as a crowd favourite, but come on….fresh summer strawberries with homemade whipped cream. Nothing better!
  • Plums – always loved them ever since I was a kid. They are sweet and when they become super ripe they make the sweetest pie filling or jam.
  • Figs – I am Italian after all and it would be weird if this one wasn’t on the list! I prefer the Black Mission figs, but don’t let the name fool you, they are actually a deep blue-purple. I love eating these not just on their own, but with some cheese , prosciutto and a bit of honey. Chef’s kiss! So delicious!

Bonus: What fruit do you NOT enjoy?

This is not part of the daily prompt, but here it is anyway! The one fruit I will never touch, not even other fruit can touch it, is…..

Watermelon!

It’s a texture thing for me and before you say “You just haven’t had good watermelon…” I’ve tried it multiple times….I just can’t do it.

Hope you enjoyed!

Bonus – WordPress Prompt – Comin’ to you Live!

I’m going to hijack this prompt a little, so bare with me if you will. The last performance that I was suppose to see would have been Thomas Rhett – a country singer, for those who don’t know. And one of my absolute favourites!

But to be fair, I can’t remember the last performance I saw, so it couldn’t have been that memorable….I think maaaaaaaybe Salt n’ Peppa. And really, it was at a local music festival with a ton of other acts and they didn’t even grace the stage for all that long.

But since I’m in the mood for a WordPress crime, I’m going to change this question up a bit and describe the most memorable performance I’d ever seen.

This may be shocking to some, but I have been a HUGE fan since I saw the movie Mermaids and also due to my mom. If you haven’t guessed it yet, it’s Cher!

I went to a Cher concert with my mom back when I was in my early teens and it was PHE-NOMENAL! One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. It was pure luck we even scored tickets because we tried to get some and they were completely sold out. My cousin, who is a hair dresser, worked along side a man who was also a mega fan of Cher, and he scored tickets to the right of the stage. He sadly couldn’t make it to the show and needed someone to take them off his hands. My cousin knew how big of a Cher fan my mom was, so we got them! My mom was over the moon and me, being the moody teen I was, hid my enthusiasm.

To say this woman puts on a show is an understatement, it was a spectacle to say the least. Between the lights, the dancers, costume changes, set changes, and the videos, it was all so engaging and incredible. Her energy was magnetic, she lit up the stage all on her own and I have never seen a performance since with that much thrill and excitement. My mother and I were mesmerized the entire show and we sang along to every single song, but so was the rest of the audience.

The audience was quite amazing as well; a packed house and I have never seen so many Cher impersonators in one room in my life! You could just feel the vibration from the audience, the rise and fall of screams and lyrics were electrifying. I now realize just how blessed I was to be a part of that moment with all those strangers.

Cher is truly a legendary entertainer and if I ever got the chance again, I’d see her in concert without a question.

Do you have a memorable concert?
